Restoration of the Pieve di Piancastagnaio (Siena)

After the death of her husband Candido Speroni, Carla Fendi wanted to commemorate him by restoring the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta in Piancastagnaio – the oldest in the area, documented since 1188 – the birthplace of her beloved husband:

Piancastagnaio had never left Candido’s and my heart: and over the years, as the memories grew more distant and therefore more intense, this place and all that it encompassed became the centre of our plans“, Carla Fendi, 2014.

Through the Foundation’s work, the two side altars of the presbytery were restored to their former glory, and other technical interventions were carried out to preserve the building:

“From the occasional meeting with the village’s parish priest, the decision was made to help him restore the Pieve dell’Assunta to its original appearance, to its most ancient dignity. It is a place linked to Candido’s life, also because it was visited daily by his father”.
